One Room Challenge Week |5 & 6

Welcome back to the One Room Challenge. Prior to going into details on what we have been up to. The past week’s events as been sobering and very much an eye-opener for all. I pray that all this increased awareness brings about concrete changes in our world as we know it. I will leave you with few line from the Langston Huges poem – America

O, let America be America again—
The land that never has been yet—
And yet must be—the land where every man is free

Langston Huges

Prior to sharing our progress thus far. Here is a little history on the one room challenge. During the spring and fall of each year. Featured designers are handpicked by Linda Weinstein and the team at ORC. To participate in a 6-week one-room makeover challenge. Where each designer gives a room of their choice a makeover. We are all carried along on the journey to transform these rooms. Luckily individuals like me with an Instagram or blog account can choose to sign up as a guest participant and join in on the fun.

ONE ROOM CHALLENGE WEEK|6

If you are just joining us you can read up on all about we have been up to on Week 1Week 2, Week 3 and Week 4. This week we are tackling mirror and light fixture. I will also work with you through the installation process and the choices we made. While creating the mood board I was undecided if I wanted to add gold metal to warm the space. Our towel and tissue holder are all made from brushed nickel. Great pieces that did not need any replacements. This helped me make up mind to stick to the decision of buying light and mirror in the same metal.

Our mirror was found while browsing for outdoor furniture on the Kirkland website. I was able to purchase and pick it up from the store in less than 24 hours. Which was awesome. The wall where the vanity will be is pretty long and wide. Choosing a mirror of the right size that won’t overpower the space was also important. The dimensions of the mirror we chose are 29.5x 35.5 inches. The mirror came with a wall mount. We reinforced it with glue.

For lighting, we found a three pendant light from lowes. Through this process of renovating the half bath. We have been impressed with the quality of the items we have purchased from lowes. We chose a 3 light progress light by Strahan. The only con to this light so far was how narrow the cones are. It made it difficult to insert and screw in the bulbs.

For more behind the scenes details and how we installed the mirror and light. Follow us on Instagram. You should check out what the guest participants and Featured Designers are up too as well.

To-do list for next week

Shop for accessories to style the space, wipe away paint splashes and hopefully not add any more things to the list.
